With the increasing number of libraries and information centers in Libya, the need emerged for national cadres specialized in the field of libraries and information to work in these institutions, which necessitated the need to open library departments in Libyan universities, including the Department of Libraries and Information Technology at Sabratha University, Which we are talking about in this study. The study covers the history and development of library and information science teaching programs in Libya in general and the Department of Libraries and Information Technology in particular. It touched on the study system in the department, the number of teaching staff and their qualifications, places to obtain them, and their precise specializations.The study used the analytical survey approach to monitor existing phenomena and benefit from them in planning for the future, in addition to the historical approach that helps us trace the beginnings of the emergence of the library science teaching movement in Libya.
